On Tuesday, Trump fired his secretary of state, Rex Tillerson after 14 months into his presidency. Trump announced that he will be replacing Tillerson with Mike Pompeo, the CIA director and former Tea Party congressman, who is known to be very tight with the president. Tillerson learned he was fired Tuesday morning, via Twitter from Trump. He had received a warning of what was coming that previous Friday from the White House chief of staff, John F. Kelly, who called Tillerson to tell him to cut his trip to Africa short. Trump tweeted yesterday “Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service!” Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all! It was known publicly that Tillerson and Trump never meshed after being hired. Tillerson clashed with the White house staff and disagreed publicly with Trump on issues ranging from Russia’s cyber aggression to issues with Saudi Arabia. Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, replacing Mike Pompeo and is the first woman Director of the CIA. This makes 22 people who have either resigned or been fired under Trump’s presidency.
