Ryan Leslie loses music catalog because he refused to pay up!
Atlanta! Did you hear about Ryan Leslie loosing a case regarding his lab top and his music? Apparently Ryan Leslie made some new music a year ago on a lab top that he lost. When he lost the lab top he put out a $1Million reward to anyone who found it and returned it back to him. Well someone did find his lab top by the name of Armin Augstein and returned it looking for the $1Million reward but…. Leslie did not pay up.
Armin Augstein took this issue to court and sued Leslie for false advertisement and the rights to whatever was in the lab top he found. Leslie stated he refused to pay because the music he thought was on the laptop wasn’t actually there which means there was no point of doing the $1Million reward.
Well in court the judge found Leslie liable and ordered him to pay Augstein $1.18 million in damages. Leslie has agreed to give up the rights to his entire music catalog and royalty payments out to Augstein. This ruling will allow Augstein to receive $538K and after six years, Augstein gets the rights to Leslie’s catalog until he reaches that $538K mark is reached.
