Barbie comes out with a new muslim barbie doll!

Atlanta – Barbie is making history as they bring out their 1st hijab wearing doll. The doll was inspired by the Olympian fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad. Muhammad is an inspiration to many girls as she became the first female Muslim-American to earn a medal at the games, and wear a headscarf (hijab) at the olympic competition in 2016.

Muhammad took to twitter to show her appreciation and wrote ” “Thank you @Mattel for announcing me as the newest member of the @Barbie #Shero family! I’m proud to know that little girls everywhere can now play with a Barbie who chooses to wear hijab! This is a childhood dream come true.”

Barbie confirmed the news on Monday, at a ceremony for Glamour magazine’s Women of the Year. Barbie stated “Ibtihaj continues to inspire women and girls everywhere to break boundaries. We now finally have a hijab wearing @Barbie with the last name Muhammad. REPRESENTATION MATTERS.”
