{MIDDAYS WITH JAZZY MCBEE} ATLANTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS RUNNING OUT OF MONEY

0

FULTON COUNTY ISN’T DOING TOO WELL With 63% of the school district’s revenue coming directly from property taxes, you can only imagine the hit that the public schools took when Fulton County’s tax digest was rejected by Georgia’s Department of Revenue last week. The Fulton County Board of Commissioner decided to freeze property tax values at the 2016 levels, which caused this rejection.

Revenue is not able to be directed to the schools due to the delayed tax bills caused by this rejection.

School field trips, new hires, and any out-of-system travels have been halted in an attempt for Fulton County Schools to tighten it’s budget and save some money.

A judge intervention is on the horizon, with Fulton County’s government and Atlanta Public Schools joining together to collect their share of the property tax money.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday November 3rd for a temporary collection order.
