Nivea is catching backlash after this commercial!

Atlanta – have you ever bought some Nivea moisturizer for your morning routine? Well guess what? Nivea is receiving some serious backlash after they released a “Lighter Skin” Commercial for darker women. Nivea also had Billboards up that showed Miss Nigeria Omowunmi Akinnifesi using Nivea moisturize to lighten up her skin. (Picture Below)

This Nivea product demonstrates how the cream works as well. To help explain better they used a black model and had her apply the cream onto her skin. Once applied it became instantly lighter.

Many People have already reacted to this advertisement. One person who responded on this commercial was entrepreneur William Adoasi slammed the TV commercial on social media by tweeting “This is why black businesses need to rise up and cater for our needs. Nivea can’t get away with pushing this skin lightening agenda across Africa. Appalling.”

Another person who disliked this video was an artist of Ghanaian descent. He posted an image on his social media that stated “Kindly take down these billboards you have placed all over our beloved countries in Africa. I saw this one with my own eyes today in Ghana and we love our complexion the way it is. And if you don’t take these down. We will. Every African everywhere should stop buying any Nivea product. Tag the Nivea branch from your country so they understand how foolish this is!”

The beauty brand acknowledged it had “missed the mark” after the Facebook ad sparked a backlash that saw the company accused of racism.
