Atlanta – A violent protest occurred after supporters of Scout Schultz (Who was killed by campus police during the weekend) gathered to mourn for the Georgia Tech student’s death.

The violence occurred two nights after Schultz was shot and killed by a Georgia Tech police officers. Schultz had a huge impact with his peers, he was the president of Pride Alliance, an LGBT organization on campus and a active leader in the school programs.

Georgia Tech confirmed that two Georgia Tech police officers had minor injuries from the violent protest. One of those officers was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Police also arrested three people involved in the protests who have been charged with inciting a riot and battery of an officer.

A witness name Hawa told WSB-TV he saw protesters clashing with police, and at one point they responded with a smoke bomb. Witness Hawa says “The police department was fighting with them actually. I saw some police officers put them in the ground”.

Scout Schultz father Bill Schultz says “I had no idea how many students looked up to Scout as a leader and it’s obvious Scout leaves a huge hole here on this campus. On behalf of Scout Schultz, we ask that those who wish to protest Scout’s death do so peacefully. Answering violence with violence is not the answer.”

Georgia Tech made a statement to students explaining “Our goal is to work diligently to make positive change at Georgia Tech in an effort to ensure a safer campus for all students. This is how we will truly honor Scout’s life and legacy.”
