GOVERNOR DEAL TALKS HURRICANE IRMA AFTERMATH

Hurricane Irma ripped through Atlanta this past Monday, causing damage to homes and streets across the counties.

Governor Deal tells Channel 2’s Richard Elliot, “This is a different kind of natural disaster. We have not had one like this in the state of Georgia for a very long time.”

He said that even with federal assistance, there is so much damage around the city that cleanup will take a while.

Deal is warning the tens of thousands Florida evacuees currently in Georgia not to attempt to travel south on I-75 until they get the okay from their local government.

Georgia Emergency Management Director, Homer Bryson, told Elliot that it will be a struggle for Floridians to return home, as many gas stations along the way are out of fuel and power.

The mandatory evacuation order for the Georgia coast has been lifted by Governor Deal on Tuesday, but he emphasizes the importance for evacuees to wait to hear from their local government before returning home.
