INTERNET GOES CRAZY AFTER SLIP-UPS, E! NEWS ANNOUNCER ISSUES APOLOGY
The Internet is blowing up after last night’s slip-up at the Golden Globes which involved E!’s red carpet host Jenna Bush Hager mistakenly calling the film “Hidden Figures” ‘Hidden Fences’ while interviewing Pharrell who worked on music for the film. Later on in the show, Michael Keaton repeated the mistake which, naturally, set Twitter and Instagram on fire.
But what’s the big deal? Well, “Hidden Figures” features a predominately black cast, and similarly, “Fences” starring Denzel Washington & Viola Davis also feature a mostly black cast. With the so-called mistake occurring twice, viewers were left only to believe that the slip-up was not as much an accident as it was a complete write-off of black cinema.
The announcer who initially made the mistake has since issues an apology on Twitter, saying, “If I offended people, I am deeply sorry, it was a mistake… I am not perfect.”
