WHAT WAS A KLANSMAN DOING AT AN HBCU?U.S. Senate hopeful and former KKK Grand Wizard David Duke pushed the envelope during the debate at New Orleans HBCU Dillard University. The debate’s sponsor, Raycom Media opted not to have an open public audience, meaning the university’s majority black student body was not allowed to attend. Students protested outside of the building. Duke said that he’s being labeled the bad guy, “because I defend the people of this country that made this country great.”
During the debate, Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy, brought up Duke’s felony conviction. Duke responded by claiming he “was targeted by the government.”
