“BIRTH OF A NATION” STAR SPEAKS OUT ABOUT SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Nate Parker spoke out in his first televised interview regarding the 1999 rape allegations made against him and how he would like to bring the attention back to his upcoming film “Birth of a Nation”.

Parker was accused of raping a fellow classmate while attending Penn State but was eventually acquitted of the crime. In 2012, the woman who made the claim tragically committed suicide. Parker became emotional during the 60 Minutes segment saying,  “I feel terrible that this woman isn’t here. I feel terrible that her family had to deal with that, but as I sit here, an apology is — no.”
“Birth of a Nation”, which Parker wrote, directed, and stars in, premieres on October 7th and details the story of Nat Turner’s slave rebellion in 1831. Some have planned to boycott the film due to Parker’s alleged past, to which he responded, “I do feel that’s unfortunate.”
