The first day of school was interrupted for students at Sagamore Hills Elementary School after a fallen tree caused a power outage Monday morning in DeKalb County.

According to DeKalb County School District officials, the outage forced the temporary closure of the school. To keep the school day on schedule, students were safely transported to nearby Lakeside High School, where classes will continue until electricity is restored.

Georgia Power reported that a tree fell along Alderbrook Road, damaging electrical infrastructure and leaving more than 120 customers without service. As of Monday morning, utility crews were responding to the scene, but no estimated restoration time had been announced.

Monday marked the first day of the new school year for DeKalb County School District students. District officials said no other schools have been impacted by the outage at this time.

Parents are encouraged to monitor communications from DeKalb County Schools for updates regarding when students will be able to return to the Sagamore Hills Elementary campus.
