Summer break is quickly coming to an end as students, parents and educators across Metro Atlanta and North Georgia prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
School calendars vary throughout the region, with some districts returning to class as early as late July. A large number of Metro Atlanta students will head back on Monday, August 3, including those in Atlanta Public Schools, Fulton County Schools, Cobb County Schools, DeKalb County Schools, Clayton County Schools, Fayette County Schools, Henry County Schools, Cherokee County Schools and City Schools of Decatur.
Other districts will return later that week. Marietta City Schools and Paulding County Schools are scheduled to begin August 4, while Gwinnett County Schools, Douglas County Schools and Buford City Schools are among those starting August 5. Forsyth County Schools and Coweta County Schools begin August 6.
Across North Georgia, start dates range from late July through August 13, making it important for families to check their individual school district calendars for specific schedules, orientation dates and other back-to-school information.
With classrooms reopening, families are encouraged to finalize school supplies, transportation arrangements and daily routines ahead of their district’s first day.
The new school year officially begins for many Metro Atlanta families during the first week of August, marking the return of students to classrooms and the start of another academic year.
