What’s happening
-
The upcoming store will span 128,500 square feet and serve as a key anchor for the developing Covington Town Center.
-
That mixed‑use center will also include a Publix supermarket, dining options, residential units, and lodging.
-
The project has been in development for about seven years, with involvement from the Foxfield Company, Harry Kitchen, and the Newton County Industrial Development Authority.
-
The development itself is managed by Atlanta‑based Fuqua Development.
-
Officials say this addition is a milestone in keeping more consumer spending within the local community.
Local perspective
Serra P. Hall, Executive Director of the Newton County Industrial Development Authority, called the development a “monumental day.” She emphasized how partnerships and recruitment contributed to bringing the project forward.
The Industrial Development Authority views the expansion as a way to reduce leakage of spending from the county — i.e. to keep more dollars circulating locally instead of going to retail outside the area.
