The Atlanta Falcons are shaking up their leadership structure by creating a new President of Football position, and franchise icon Matt Ryan is set to interview for the job, Falcons owner Arthur Blank confirmed this week. The role — designed to shape the team’s vision and identity and oversee key decisions — will report directly to Blank and play a central part in hiring the next head coach and general manager as the organization looks to rebound after an 8-9 season. Ryan, the club’s all-time leader in passing yards, completions and touchdown passes and the 2016 NFL MVP, has no previous front office experience, but Blank highlighted his leadership qualities and deep knowledge of the game, saying Ryan’s experience leading in the locker room could translate well to an executive role. In addition to Ryan, the Falcons are interviewing other candidates for the newly created position.
