Some Atlanta Fans Debate 6ix9ine’s Return to Rap Amid YSL “Snitching” Rumors

0

The conversation around snitching in hip-hop has Atlanta buzzing again — and somehow, 6ix9ine is back in the mix.

The Brooklyn rapper, who skyrocketed to fame in 2018 with hits like “GUMMO” and “FEFE” with Nicki Minaj, saw his career collapse after cooperating with the feds during the Nine Trey Gangsters RICO case. His decision to testify shaved decades off his potential prison sentence, but it also earned him one of rap’s most notorious reputations. For years, Atlanta fans — like much of the culture — dismissed him entirely.

But the recent YSL trial has reopened old wounds in the city. With Young Thug fighting for his freedom, rumors have swirled online about whether he or others in YSL cooperated with authorities — though there’s no hard evidence to back those claims. The speculation has still fueled debates in Atlanta barbershops, on social media, and in group chats: If Thug can be accused without proof, should 6ix9ine still be treated as a permanent outcast?

6ix9ine himself hasn’t wasted any time chiming in. On Instagram Live with DJ Akademiks, he cracked jokes at Thug’s expense, even saying Thug should face the same ridicule he endured. Quality Control CEO Pierre “P” Thomas — an ATL heavyweight in his own right — found the trolling hilarious, which only added fuel to the fire.

For context, 6ix9ine did manage to land big hits after his trial — like “GOOBA” and the chart-topping “TROLLZ” with Nicki Minaj in 2020. But his “snitch” label made him untouchable to most of the industry. Now, some younger Atlanta fans on TikTok are openly saying they wouldn’t mind his return, especially in light of the YSL chatter.

Atlanta has always been at the center of hip-hop’s culture wars — and this conversation is no different. The real question is whether fans here are ready to see 6ix9ine back on the scene, or if “snitching” will always keep him locked out of the city’s respect.
