Thousands of Atlanta families are starting the school year with lighter shoulders after a $10 million debt relief effort wiped away medical and household bills. The initiative, led by the Atlanta Dream with support from Cash App and ForgiveCo, aims to ease financial stress in some of the city’s hardest-hit neighborhoods.
Instead of focusing only on basketball, the Dream say their mission extends to building stronger communities. By partnering with ForgiveCo, which purchases and erases debt, the team helped families free themselves from obligations that ranged from just a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands.
To mark the occasion, the Dream and Cash App are hosting a free clinic for young girls at C.T. Martin Recreation Center—mixing basketball drills with lessons in teamwork and leadership to inspire the next generation both on and off the court.
