Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced Wednesday he issued an executive order extending the State of Emergency, extending the state gas tax suspension, to 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 29, 2023.

The decision continues the suspension of the state’s excise tax on motor and locomotive fuel and will help Georgians cope with high food and travel costs during the upcoming holiday season.

“I’m proud this action has helped keep millions of dollars in hardworking Georgians’ pockets and look forward to continuing to see that impact with the Thanksgiving holiday approaching,” said Kemp in a press release.

According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of regular gas in Georgia is currently $2.89, which is $0.51 below the national average.

“Renewing the gas tax suspension will continue to provide financial relief to Georgians,” said Lt. Governer Burt Jones.
