A Georgia jury found the three men who murdered Ahmaud Arbery guilty on all counts in a federal hate crimes trial in Brunswick Tuesday morning.
Greg and Travis McMichael and Roddie Bryant were found guilty of interference with rights and attempted kidnapping and other charges in connection to Arbery’s death in 2020.
Georgia’s state court found them guilty of chasing Arbery down in a pickup truck as he jogged through their Brunswick neighborhood and shooting him to death.
The federal trial centered around whether or not the McMichaels and Bryant were motivated by racism when they committed the crimes. The prosecution demonstrated examples of their regular use of hate speech before the crime.
Reactions the the verdict poured out on social media. Here’s what some prominent members of the Black community and Georgia leaders had to say.
