Some big names from the music industry and pro sports are helping to lift local families impacted by the pandemic. Atlanta was the eighth stop on the national “Feed Your City Challenge” Tour Saturday.
The “Feed Your City Challenge” was started by retired NBA player Ricky Davis and music executive Tony Draper to feed underserved communities.
Atlanta’s event provided fresh groceries and personal protective equipment supplies for up to 4,500 people.
Tauheed Epps, better known as the rapper 2Chainz, grew up in College Park and donated some of the supplies. He spoke with Channel 2 Action News about why this event was so important to him.
“There’s a lot of stuff going on in the world, but it’s important for people like myself who have a platform to be on ground zero giving back,” 2 Chainz said. “It’s a hard time for the whole world, not just the city of Atlanta. But I’m just using my platform to lead by example.”
The event also gave people the chance to complete their voter registration and learn more about the U.S. Census.
“It’s very important that each person be counted so we can get the right funds in the community. It’s another thing I’m trying to get people out here to understand as well,” 2 Chainz said.
Atlanta artist 6lack, Quality Control Music Group and Jhene Aiko’s Social Justice Collective also donated resources for Saturday’s event.
