A new COVID-19 testing partnership has been announced that will reduce wait time for test results in Georgia.

Gov. Brian Kemp, along with the Georgia Department of Public Health, announced the partnership with Mako Medical.

The partnership will provide testing supplies and services that will be able to process 10,000 tests per day.

This will allow most test results to be returned within 48 hours.

Kemp said Georgia has dramatically expanded testing since the beginning of the pandemic.

“As demand for testing has soared across the country, many private labs have been unable to process tests quick enough to aid in contact tracing and mitigation efforts,” Kemp said. “With some Georgians waiting well over a week for their results, the status quo is unacceptable.”

“As we continue our efforts to combat COVID-19, expanded and streamlined testing is absolutely crucial,” said Dr. Kathleen Toomey, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Toomey stated that a partnership with Mako Medical will increase processing capabilities and allow for a quicker response to newly confirmed cases.

“Mako Medical is honored to assist the state of Georgia in the fight against COVID-19 by deploying our testing capabilities,” Josh Arant, Mako Medical Laboratories said.

Arant confirmed that the average test result turnaround time will be 48 hours.

The fast results will be key to COVID-19 response efforts.
