Atlanta police said they responded to multiple shootings throughout the city during the fourth of July and early Sunday morning.

Police reported at least 23 people were shot in five separate incidents. One of the shootings was deadly. An 8-year-old girl died from her injuries after someone opened fire into a car off Pryor Road.

One of the shootings happened around 1 a.m. off Auburn Avenue in northeast Atlanta. Police said a large group was watching fireworks when a car hit a pedestrian.

An argument broke out and escalated into gunfire, according to investigators. Police said 14 people were shot and taken to area hospitals. Two people are in critical condition while the other 12 are stable.

The second shooting happened earlier around 11:45 p.m Saturday night. Officers responded to a call off Lakewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta.

Police said someone drove by and fired shots at a group of people. Five were shot and taken to hospitals in stable condition.

Atlanta police reported at least three other shootings in the last 24 hours. Two men got into an argument over a woman off Edgewood Avenue around 12:50 a.m. One shot the other in the arm.

Off Hardee Street in northeast Atlanta, officers found a man and woman who had been shot. Both declined to give information to police about what happened and were taken to Grady Hospital in stable condition. Investigators said the two may have confronted a group of people setting off fireworks before the shooting.
