{STREETZ MORNING TAKEOVER} ATLANTA MAKES CHANGES TO ROADS FOR SCOOTERS

SCOOTERS ARE THE REASON FOR THE SMOOTH ROADS NOW?

There will be some MAJOR changes coming to Atlanta roads to keep e-scooter riders safe.

Many areas in the city of Atlanta do not have dedicated bike and scooter lanes, which can be dangerous.

Several people have died riding the scooters, so Atlanta’s mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, has a new plan to make streets safer.

The new bikes and scooter and lanes will look similar to the white plastic barriers that line up along 10th Street near Piedmont Park to protect the e-scooter and bike riders from cars. As of right now, the city of Atlanta currently has four miles of protected bike and scooter lanes.

Construction will happen in Midtown for the first the new lanes will start at the beginning of October.

Scooter riders say they are excited that the change is on the way and that their safety from cars is finally becoming a priority in the city of Atlanta. The entire project is expected to be done by 2021.
