{STREETZ MORNING TAKEOVER} NEW GEORGIA LAWS IN EFFECT

0

GEORGIA HAS SOME NEW LAWS THAT HAVE BEEN PASSED AND ARE GOING IN EFFECT NOW

The first one is protection from slumlords (House Bill 346). This new law will protect renters from eviction when they complain about unhealthy condition.

Next, there’s the new child marriage law (House Bill 228), so the minimum age will no longer be 16, but 17 years old for children to get married. Lawmakers are hoping this new law will protect children from domestic violence, human trafficking, child abuse and more.

And then there’s the medical marijuana (House Bill 324). Under this law, six private companies can grow medical marijuana, but there will be no dispensaries allowed until they are approved by a board. Only pharmacies will be allowed to give the medical marijuana oil. Patients might have to wait for months or even years.

Following that law, is the sexual assault evidence law (House Bill 282)  where law enforcement agencies will have to save evidence from sexual assaults for up to 50 years.
