THIS WOMAN RUINED THE LIVES OF FIVE INNOCENT BLACK MEN
The popular Netflix series When They See Us has just recently released and since it’s release, Linda Fairstein has received so much backlash. The television show When They See Us tells the story of five black boys who were convicted of raping a white girl by the name of Trisha Meili In New York City’s Central Park in 1989. The prosecutor at the time, Linda Fairstein, has called the show a “basket of lies”. Director, Ava Duvernay, says that before the show aired, Fairstein tried to negotiate her role in the script during the scriptwriting process. Korey Wise, Yusef Salaam, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, and Raymond Santana, also known as the Central Park 5, was sentenced to between six and thirteen years each. After the confession of a serial rapist, the boys were let free and eventually awarded a $41 million settlement from the city of New York City. “I do not want to become a lightning rod to inflict damage on this organization, because of those now attacking my record of fighting for social justice for more than 45 years”, said Fairstein as she resigns from numerous boards. It was stated that some of the employees that worked for the boards she was on was unhappy. The social media campaign #CancelLindaFairstein has started which caused her to shut down all of her social media accounts.
