IS KIM KARDASHIAN BECOMING AN EXPERT PRISON REFORM ACTIVIST?
Kim Kardashian was instrumental in shedding light on the cases of Alice Marie Johnson and Matthew Charles, two prisoners whom she felt were punished too harshly. During a meeting with Donald Trump in 2018, Kardashian initiated a conversation regarding the release of Charles and Johnson. Her continued efforts were instrumental in helping both get out of prison.
Most recently, Cyntoia Brown was granted clemency. Brown was another inmate that Kim helped to spread awareness about. As reported by TMZ, Kim’s three for three record has earned her a reputation with inmates.
Both staffers and inmates alike have begun calling Kim “The Princess of Prison Reform.” It appears that Kim has the “magic touch” and as a result receives thousands of letters daily from inmates vying for her attention, in hopes that she will highlight their story next.
Kim’s influence may have also been a catalyst for the Senate to pass the First Step Act, following her meeting with Trump. The First Step act aims to prevent recidivism and help grant clemency to thousands of inmates, it also aims to improve living conditions and assist with ending the inhumane treatment of inmates.
If Kim keeps this up, she can add “expert social activist leader” to her resume.
