MCDONALD’S WILL BE GIVING AWAY $40,000 IN GRANTS TO TEACHERS

Educators and others who help students can apply for a grant — this time not from the government or an educational institution, but from McDonald’s.

The Greater Atlanta McDonald’s Golden Grant program is funded by local franchise owners. Twelve grants — one for $20,000, one for $10,000 and 10 for $1,000 — will be awarded based on creativity, innovation, need and hands-on application of proposed projects.

The proposals can involve arts and crafts programs, education initiatives, mentorship and empowerment programs, after-school programs, community service outreach and sporting programs. Activities and programs must be executed by Dec. 31, 2019 in one of 30 metro Atlanta counties.

“Golden Grants was created to be a resource for teachers and other individuals who are working hard to positively impact the lives and minds of our students,” said Dave Hamilton, a local McDonald’s owner. “We’re excited to fund this program as we recognize the importance of education and contributing to communities throughout Greater Atlanta.”

Eligible Atlantans can see the official rules and enter here. The deadline to enter is Nov. 2; grant recipients
