NIKE SUPPORTERS NOT PLEASED AT UNVEILING OF ‘JUST DO IT” CAMPAIGN

Unfortunately, Nike supporters were not pleased with its new sportswear campaign unveiling. Nike’s stock was at a low Tuesday after advertising a new campaign featuring NFL protestant, Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick already had a deal with Nike that was set to expire soon, but it was renegotiated into a multiyear deal to make him one of the headlines of Nike’s 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign.

“We believe Colin is one of the most inspirational athletes of this generation, who have leveraged the power of sport to help the world move forward,” Vice President of Nike North America, Gino Fisanotti, states to ESPN. Nike shares were recorded 2.5% lower in the markets of trading on Wall Street, the biggest drop since July 3rd. Kaepernick’s kneeling during the anthem proved to be significantly costly to the NFL and has seen a gradual decline in ratings since the primary kneeling back in 2016. While Nike’s previous campaigns have outlined sports culture within the US and helped developed the world high status of athletes like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, its current effort has courted immediate controversy and will result in customer backlash in its biggest market, and already losing against its rival Adidas.
