The superstar three-time world champion will be a potential free-agent this summer, and the Lakers have enough cap space to sign James and another star to a max deal.
An attorney, Jacob Emrani and Lakers season-ticket holders, recently paid for billboards across the city to display a welcoming message for James. Apparently, Emrani is not the first person to attempt to lure James away from the Cleveland Cavaliers by using billboards to attract his attention. Emrani says that he has paid for four billboards to be placed around Los Angeles in efforts to recruit James to join the Lakers in a response to billboards in Cleveland and Pennsylvania.
The teams in both cities are trying to get the All-Star to join the 76ers or stay at home. LeBron set to be in LA to face the Clippers on Friday and the Lakers on the following Sunday.
The Lakers organization denies any dealings with the billboards. The Lakers have already been penalized by the NBA on two separate occasions. They were fined $500,000 twice this season, first for when GM Rob Pelinka contacted Paul George’s agent before the season, and then on another incident when Lakers’ President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson made comments praising Giannis Antetokounmpo.
