FIND OUT MORE DETAILS ON WHY AN APOLOGY FROM H&M WAS NOT ENOUGH FOR SOUTH AFRICA PROTESTERS.

On Saturday, the clothing company H&M temporarily closed several stores in South Africa. Protesters reacted to an ad in which a black child wore a sweatshirt with slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle.” Many of the protesters were dressed in red which is the signature of the Economic Freedom Fighters. There was footage showing protesters throwing racks of clothing to the ground.

The group leader, Julius Malema, shared images of the destruction and comments accusing H&M of racism. On Saturday morning, Malema stated, “We will never be told by any fool on how to fight against our oppression particularly those who have never been at the picket lines. There’s no formula on how you should fight the oppressor, expect more action against all racists, individually and collectively this year.”

The Weeknd and G-Eazy, who previously collaborated with H&M, announced later that afternoon that he would no longer be working with the brand.
