THE INCIDENT WAS CAUGHT ON CAMERA!

A video has surfaced showing two Orlando police officers pulling over Florida’s first African American state attorney. Aramis Ayala was stopped on June 19 in Parramore after leaving Florida A&M University College of Law.

The officer, who took her license asked Ayala which agency she worked for, to which she responded: “I’m the state attorney.”

After hearing her response, the officer tried to explain why the vehicle was pulled over, telling Ayala: “We ran the tag, I’ve never seen it before with a Florida tag, it didn’t come back to anything, so that’s the reason for the stop.”

When Ayala asked for the reason they run her plate, the officer responded: “Oh, we run tags through all the time, whether it’s a traffic light and that sort stuff, that’s how we figure out if cars are stolen and that sort of thing.”

“Also, the windows are really dark, I don’t have a tint measure but that’s another reason for the stop,” he added. The state attorney looked unimpressed and asked the officers for their information.

Ayala took to her Twitter July 11, referring to the stop: “Politicizing justice is an injustice itself.”

Ayala confirmed the incident and said, “Although the traffic stop appears to be consistent with Florida law (my) goal is to have a constructive and mutually respectful relationship between law enforcement and the community.”
“I look forward to sitting down to have an open dialogue with the Chief of Orlando Police Department regarding how this incident impacts that goal.”
