DID KEVIN DURANT TAKE LESS MONEY?!!?

Kevin Durant was due a 20 percent raise this year, but apparently won’t take it. After opting out of the second year of a two-year deal he signed last year, Durant intended to re-sign with the Warriors after claiming NBA Finals MVP honors while helping the team win its second championship in three years. Durant was due to receive over $27.7 million for the 2017-18 season, but was eligible for a bump that could have paid him a maximum of $34.65 million. Durant is passing on that raise and will take less money to remain with the Warriors.  Espn reports Durant had agreed on a two-year deal worth $53 million, or $26.5 million annually. Not only does Durant taking less money allow the team to sign other players, it lessens the penalty for the NBA’s luxury tax for dollars spent that raises the team salary above the league cap. Warriors were able to sign Andre Iguodala for $48 million and Shaun Livingston for $24 million, both over three years because of this pay cut.
