WHAT A SHAME!
For the second time in a week a noose was found in the National Museum of African American History and Culture in D.C. on Wednesday, May 31.
The discovery caused museum officials to shut the exhibition that the rope was located in the area of an exhibition of segregation until U.S. Park Police officers could show up and complete a brief investigation. The finding is reminiscent of one that took place earlier in the week at the museum.
The nation has seen a rising tide of noose-related incidents over the past few months. One was found hanging in a Crofton, MD middle school in mid-May. Weeks later it was reported that a group of Oakland longshoremen staged a strike that lasted for a few hours after nooses were discovered in their place of work. “We’ve never had reports like this ever,” Southern Poverty Law Center Spokesperson Ryan Lenz said about the incident. “We never counted them before because they were so staggered,” she said.
