Jack Harlow Faces Major Sales Drop as “Monica” Underperforms First Week

0

Jack Harlow is facing a surprising setback with his latest album Monica, as early projections show a significant decline in first-week sales compared to his previous releases.

According to reports, Monica is expected to move around 25,000 units in its first week, putting it on track to debut outside the Billboard 200 Top 20—a major drop for an artist of Harlow’s stature.

For comparison, his 2022 album Come Home The Kids Miss You debuted with 113,000 units, highlighting just how steep the decline is for this new project.

A big factor behind the underwhelming performance appears to be controversy surrounding Harlow’s recent comments, where he claimed he “got Blacker” while making the album. The statement sparked backlash online, with many critics calling it tone-deaf and out of touch.

At the same time, the album’s R&B and neo-soul direction hasn’t fully connected with his core fanbase. Listeners who were expecting his usual rap-heavy sound felt alienated, while critics and outlets like Pitchfork and Anthony Fantano also gave the project negative reviews, adding to the mixed reception.

Despite the slow start, this doesn’t necessarily signal the end for Harlow. The rapper still has time to regroup, respond to criticism, and potentially bounce back with future releases that better align with fan expectations.
