Tragedy at Emory: Suspect Identified in Deadly Shooting

0

A quiet afternoon on the campus of Emory University was shattered by violence Friday, leaving two people dead and a community searching for answers.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has now identified the man believed to be responsible for the deadly shooting: 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw. According to authorities, White was the suspected gunman in the incident that claimed the life of Officer David Rose, a member of the DeKalb County Police Department.

Both White and Officer Rose died during the encounter.

The circumstances surrounding White’s death remain under investigation. Officials have not yet determined whether he was killed by police gunfire or by a self-inflicted wound during the exchange.

The shooting has left Emory University β€” and the wider Atlanta area β€” grappling with grief. Officer Rose, remembered by colleagues as a dedicated public servant, was responding to the situation when he was fatally wounded.

No other injuries have been reported.

As investigators work to piece together exactly what led to the confrontation, tributes for Officer Rose continue to pour in from across the law enforcement community and beyond. Flags at local agencies have been lowered, and vigils are being planned in his honor.

While details are still unfolding, one thing is clear: Friday’s events mark a heartbreaking moment for both Emory University and the broader DeKalb County community. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek clarity in the aftermath of this devastating incident.
