Atlanta Carvana customers say they can’t prove they own the cars they bought

Some metro Atlanta customers are speaking out against Carvana after they say the trendy car dealership is putting them at risk of getting pulled over by police.

Customers across the country say they’ve experienced the same issue as well.

Lawyers in Pennsylvania have filed a class action lawsuit over issues they say all stem from paperwork errors.

Channel 2′s Justin Carter talked to one man who says he was pulled over by police and couldn’t prove he owned his Seven Series BMW because Carvana hasn’t sent him the title to it, even though he bought the car last year.

“It’s almost traumatizing every time I’m driving around and I see police,” Will Crosby said.

Because Crosby hasn’t received the title, he hasn’t been able to get the car’s registration.

“When the police had ran the tags, they saw that the tags were registered in someone else’s name,” he explained.

Susan McLeod with the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner’s Office says it’s extremely rare for a driver to not receive a title for a year.

“The dealer has 30 days to submit the paperwork,” she told Carter. “People can get tickets and their vehicles can get impounded, so it truly is quite important.”

Because he doesn’t have the car’s registration or title, he can’t get the tags and couldn’t sell it, even if he wanted to.

“It’s just been a nightmare,” he said. “At this point, I don’t even want the car anymore.” Carvana’s corporate office released a statement that reads, in part, “We remain firmly committed to continuous improvement and will stay hard at work making the best car buying and shopping experience available even better.”
