The Atlanta Hawks and star point guard Trae Young have reportedly agreed to a 5-year, $207 million contract extension per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi.

Young will also have an early termination option after the fourth season of the deal, per Wojnarowski.
Young earns a maximum contract extension ahead of the fourth and final season of his rookie scale deal that he signed in 2018 upon being selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.
Young was an All-Star in his second season, and arguably should have been this past season as well. The Hawks got out to a sluggish start as a team, and that may have cost him a spot in the game, which was hosted in Atlanta.
Young will need to make All-NBA this upcoming season to convert his extension to the $207 million super max. If he does not make All-NBA this season, the deal will pay him $172.5 million over the same 5 years. He should have a very realistic shot at All-NBA if the Hawks are able to continue their winning ways from the second half of the 2020-21 campaign. Another note is that these figures are based on a $119 million salary cap and could be subject to change.
Young’s extension will kick in for the 2022-2023 season. He will make $8.3 million in the final season of his four-year rookie deal.
