Both Centennial Olympic Park and Stone Mountain Park announced Thursday that they have canceled their annual Fourth of July fireworks shows because of the ongoing pandemic.
Centennial Olympic Park said in a statement that the decision was to “take the necessary precautions to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19.”

The Park has hosted what they say is the Southeast’s biggest Fourth of July fireworks show for 22 years.
“The financial impact of COVID-19 resulted in the tough decision to cancel this year’s event,” officials said. “Watching fireworks in Centennial Olympic Park is an Atlanta tradition and we look forward to continuing that in 2021.”
The decision at Stone Mountain was made “due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the desire to maintain social distancing,” officials said in a statement.
The Stone Mountain Park Lasershow and Fireworks for Fantastic Fourth Celebration was originally scheduled from July 1 to 7.
Parts of the park are still open, including the golf courses, hiking trails and the Marriott hotel.
“We thank our extended Stone Mountain Park family for their understanding and compassion for one another as we work together to navigate this crisis,” officials said.
Stone Mountain and Centennial Olympic Park join a growing list of venues and cities that have canceled their annual 4th of July fireworks shows including the Georgia Aquarium and the communities of Decatur, Dunwoody, Avondale Estates and Chamblee.
