10 States See Highest Daily Average Of New Covid-19 Cases Since Beginning Of Pandemic

The country might be reopening its doors, but that doesn’t mean that COVID-19 isn’t’ a threat.

As of now, 10 states are seeing their highest seven-day average of new coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. According to Johns Hopkins University, the states include Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas.

“Texas has set a new record for hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Texas. The state just reported 2,793 lab-confirmed hospitalizations – that is an 11% increase from yesterday’s record and now an 85% increase since Memorial Day.

Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, chair of the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania says the majority of these new cases are due to community spread.

“You can have a small percentage increase because of testing in terms of number of cases,” he said. “But when you see 50% or 150% increase in the number of cases you are seeing — which is what we are seeing across the South — that’s not testing. That’s new cases. That’s community spread.”
If communities want to avoid the spread masks must be implemented everywhere as the number of cases will soon lead to an increase in hospitalizations.
