Atlanta mayor launches fund to help beauty industry during pandemic

Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced Tuesday that she has launched a fund to provide relief to the independent cosmetology workforce.

The Strength in Beauty fund will facilitate private grants to people in the beauty industry who have suffered because of the coronavirus.

“My mom owned a hair salon, where I met men and women who changed my life,” Bottoms wrote on Twitter. “They believed in me, encouraged me, laughed, and even cried with me. More than stylists, they’re often our counselors, prayer warriors and confidants.”

The news comes a day after Gov. Brian Kemp announced that barber shops, nail salons and other beauty businesses can reopen on Friday.

Bottoms is asking people to donate to the Strength in Beauty fund through ATLSTRONG.org.
