A court in Texas has halted the execution of Rodney Reed, convicted for murder, in a case that has attracted huge public attention in the US. More details inside…
Rodney Reed has awoken America with his story. In 1996 Reed, 28 years old at the time, was accused of assaulting and killing 18-year-old Stacey Stites with the sentencing of 15 yrs.! Rodney didn’t become a suspect until 6 months after the investigation when his DNA was found within Stacey. Reed agreed that he and Stites had a consensual sexual relationship and they were together the night before she was missing, but he had nothing to do with the death of Stacey.
22 years later in prison, Rodney still claims his innocence and has caught the attention of many people allowing him to gain over 2 million signatures for a petition on freerodneyreed.com and 300,000 have signed another petition on Change.org, in honor of Reed.
Reed’s execution is set for November 20, 2019, but as of today, November 15, 2019, there has been new evidence proving Reed’s innocence. Dr. Michael Baden a forensic pathologist is investigating Rodney’s case and claims, “it is medically and scientifically impossible for Rodney to have murdered Stacey Stites … the forensic evidence shows he could not have been with her at the time of death, she was already decomposing when her DNA was found in a truck, in the driver’s side”. Baden reiterates that the case is not adding up, especially being that there was missing DNA recordings such as DNA testing on the murder weapon and the truck in which Stacy’s body was found.
The Texas Parole Board is recommending the delay in Rodney’s case! Michael Baden recommends for this case to remain open and Reed to be taken off of death row continuing the investigation. Things are beginning to look up for Reed with time, hopefully, the courts will be in his favor!
