Our condolences go out to the Crawford family.
After a long and devasting search for Clark Atlanta student Alexis Crawford, her body was found Friday in the Dekalb County Park. Police charge Alexis’ roommate Jordyn Jones and boyfriend, Barron Brantley, for the murder of 21-year-old. Police stated that they were led to the body by one of the suspects. The medical examiner determined the cause of Alexis’ death was asphyxiation (suffocation).
Officers secured warrant against Mr. Brantley on Friday and later arrested roommate Jones, Saturday. Atlanta police have not established a motive yet. However, Jones will appear in court on Monday at 11 AM. Brantley waived his first appearance and is set to see a judge on November 22nd. Both suspects are in Fulton County Jail without bond.
A lot of questions are still to be answered regarding the motives behind this tragic murder. Alexis Crawford filed a police report against Barron Bratley on October 27th for sexual assault. This incident was reported only three days before Crawford’s disappearance on October 30th. According to the police report, “the victim stated that the suspect rubbed up against her shoulder and kissed her on the neck.” Later in the statement, it states that “Jones went looking for Brantley and noticed the bathroom door was closed,” the roommate began repeatedly knocking on the door. Eventually, Brantley opened the door with his shirt off stating, “we did not have sex.”
Crawford’s mother and sister both spoke with Alexis, the day of her disappearance, and reported to the investigator she was in good spirits. In Jones’s initial statement to the police on October 30th, the roommate stated that she took Alexis to the liquor store at around 11:30 PM. Authorities released the last images of Alexis alive at the liquor store on Nov.1st. Jones continued to express to authorities that after they returned home from the liquor store, “went to bed for the night,” the was reported at 12:30 AM.
Many Clark Atlanta students are in dismay and uneasy about the catastrophic death of the former student. Dozen of AUC students gathered Sunday to celebrate the life of Alexis.
Neither suspect has released a statement since the reveal of Alexis’ body. This case is still under heavy instigation. As far as the Crawford family, we at Streetz 94.5 send our utmost condolences and will continue to keep Alexis in our spirits. Alexis Crawford’s funeral will be held November 16th at 12 PM at the Hill Chapel Baptist Church, 1692 W. Hancock Avenue in Athens.
