The NCAA officially announced on Tuesday that college athletes will be allowed to financially benefit from their name image and likeness. According to CBS News, this major change will enable college athletes to sign endorsements, and hire representatives without jeopardizing scholarships or participation in NCAA-sanctioned sports. In support of the decision, an NCAA official made a statement saying “We must embrace change to provide the best possible experience for college athletes.” Prior to this rule change, California had already passed a bill that gives student-athletes the liberty to be compensated for their image. Taking effect in the `state of California in 2023, the new law will enable college athletes to obtain sneaker and drink endorsements.
