Well, I guess it depends on what you consider a sell-out?
Last year the Oscars asked Kevin Hart to be the official host and soon after, old homophobic tweets that Kevin sent out resurfaced the web and the Academy called out Kevin for an apology. The issue came about when Kevin refused to apologize because he says “I’ve already apologized years ago and I’m not going to continue to get backlash and apologize for something I’ve moved on from”.
Ellen, being the women she is, takes it upon herself to speak to the academy on Kevin’s behalf and she says that the Academy still wants Kev and they may have “overreacted” or “mishandled” the situation. “You’ve already expressed that it’s not being educated on the subject, not realizing how dangerous those words are, not realizing how many kids are killed for being gay or beaten up every day,” she said. “You have grown, you have apologized, you are apologizing again right now. You’ve done it.” were Ellen’s words to Kevin.
The question now is, Wil Kevin be considered a sell-out if he still hosts the Oscars?
