Trump Commutes Alice Johnson’s Sentence Following Kardashian Visit

Just one week after hearing Kim Kardashian-West out during a meeting held to discuss the fate of Alice Marie Johnson, President Trump announced that he is commuting the 63-year-old inmate’s sentence.

Johnson has served 21 years of a life sentence in the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama. She was convicted of conspiracy to possess cocaine in 1997. Johnson’s story has drawn the attention of millions thanks to a powerful social media campaign that wound up drawing Kim Kardashian’s attention last October. Since then, the reality television star has been rallying for her release.

“Ms. Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades. Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates,” the White House stated while making the move known to the public.

“While this Administration will always be very tough on crime, it believes that those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance,” the statement added.

In a tweet that she posted upon learning the news, Kardashian shared Johnson’s reaction to the decision and how it made her feel to witness it, stating: “The phone call I just had with Alice will forever be one of my best memories. Telling her for the first time and hearing her screams while crying together is a moment I will never forget.”

Alice has driven a short distance away from Alabama’s Aliceville Correctional Facility and bolted into the arms of loved ones waiting for her on the roadside.

As we reported … the 63-year-old great-grandmother’s case became national news after Kim tweeted about it. She was sentenced to life in prison for first-time offenses of money laundering and drug conspiracy.

Kim K made it her mission to set Alice free, and finally got to discuss it with POTUS last week. Kim got to break the good news to Alice ahead of Trump granting her clemency — and Alice shared her gratitude with reporters.
