{STREETZ MORNING TAKEOVER} REV. AL SHARPTON TAKES A STAND FOR MEEK MILLZ

ANOTHER PERSON IN MEEK’S CORNER

This past Monday, Reverend Al Sharpton traveled to Chester State Correctional Facility in Pennsylvania to visit inmate Robert Rihmeek Williams, commonly known as “Meek Mill”.

Meek Mill is sentenced to 2-4 years for violating probation on an almost 10-year-old gun charge.

Sharpton, president of the civil rights organization, National Action Network, is claiming that Meek has become a public symbol for the many African American citizens victimized by harsh and unjust probation rules and restrictions in this country.

“He’s representative of many people in institutions like this that do little or nothing, they’re violated and their lives, their businesses are ruined,” Sharpton expressed on his visit, “If you can do this to a successful artist like Meek Mill, you can do this to many around the country.”

Thousands of people around the country, celebrities included, have rallied and showed their support for Meek Mill in the past few weeks. His supporters feel as though this punishment is uncalled for, given the nature of the crime, despite the multiple chances he had been given to stay out of trouble.

What do you think Atlanta?? Is this jail time justified, or is the justice system taking it a step too far? Let us know in the comments!
