POLICE CONTINUE MANHUNT FOR KIDNAPPER AND CARJACKER

WSB-TV 2 reported:

“BARROW COUNTY, Ga. – Several agencies are searching for a kidnapping and carjacking suspect in Barrow County.

Authorities were in the area of Exchange Boulevard in Bethlehem in reference to the carjacking and kidnapping, which occurred in Walton County on Sunday afternoon.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said an 81-year-old woman was kidnapped from her home and put in the trunk of a car.

Investigators were able to track the woman’s cellphone to locate her.

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office spotted the vehicle and a brief chase ensued.

The suspect, 29-year-old John Calhoun, crashed behind a movie theater. Authorities said the woman in the trunk was taken to the hospital for treatment.

“She seemed to be in reasonably good health, had some abrasions on the back of her head I assume from being in the trunk of the car,” Sheriff Joe Chapman said.

Investigators do not believe Calhoun acted alone. They believe the incident could be related to a string of car break-ins in the area.

“We do believe that there’s a strong potential that these individuals are armed and dangerous,” GBI special agent Michael Ayers said.

Deputies from Barrow and Walton counties, Georgia State Patrol officers and Winder police were on the ground and in the air looking for Calhoun.

Neighbors said they are thankful the woman is going to be OK, and hopeful that the suspect is caught soon.

“It’s pretty scary. I mean, I have a 10-month-old daughter, so that’s her security. Definitely be keeping our eyes on the doors, windows, that’s for sure. Staying aware and alert,” neighbor Gabriel Lanfear said.

Investigators said the woman does not remember anything related to her kidnapping.

Police ask anyone who knows the whereabouts of Calhoun to call 911.”
